How to Wash Computer Backpack: Step by Step?
productcate-400-200

1

Unzip All the Pockets

Turn your backpack upside-down and shake out crumbs over a trash can. Brush the interior of every pocket with your hands to make sure you get everything.

productcate-400-200

2

Remove Surface Dirt

If the outside of your backpack is dusty, brush the outside with a dry washcloth. Optionally, vacuum the exterior with a fabric attachment. Then, wipe the exterior with a water-dampened cloth to pick up any extra dirt.

productcate-400-200

3

Clean the Friction Areas

The shoulder straps and back panel of your backpack have more exposure to sweat. Make sure to wipe these areas with your damp cloth.

productcate-400-200

4

Spot-treat

Do you have some stains or sticky areas that need extra attention? Dilute some mild soap in water (about one teaspoon of soap per one cup of water). Dampen a washcloth and then apply to the problem area. Rub gently until the stain or stickiness is gone. Then, wipe up the soapy area with a purely water-dampened cloth.

productcate-400-200

5

Clean the Zippers and Hardware

If your zippers are gunky, use the clean brush to gently scrub the problem area. You can dip the brush in the soapy water for any really stubborn areas.

6

Clean the Inside of the Bag

Use a damp cloth to wipe down the inside fabric. Avoid using soapy water, as the soap can be difficult to remove later. Since Knack Packs have an anti-microbial and stain-resistant interior lining, they'll never smell or stain.

Air Dry

It's always best to let your backpack air dry. Hang it up somewhere with good airflow. If you're in a hurry, you can use a hair dryer on very low - or no - heat to expedite the drying process. Better yet, put your backpack in front of a fan at room temperature. Do not put your backpack in the dryer.

Common Materials of Computer Backpacks

1. Nylon

Nylon is a common material for all sorts of backpacks and bags, including those meant to carry laptops. It boasts some significant advantages.
First of all, nylon is incredibly lightweight, so it's easy to carry a messenger-style laptop bag all day, even assuming it has an added foam cushion to protect your laptop. Secondly, nylon is quite durable. It can stand up to daily use better than many other fabrics. There are different strengths of nylon of course. If you want extra durability, a great option is ballistic nylon. Originally developed for the military, this fabric can have a denier rating of 1000D or more!
If you care about style, however, nylon isn't always the best option. It's difficult to dye, so color choices are usually limited, and it can be expensive.

2. Polyester

Polyester is made from synthetic fibers. It's not as lightweight as nylon, but not as heavy as options like leather or canvas.
Polyester bags are typically cheaper than nylon. The material also acts a bit more like natural fabric, so it can be dyed and designed. Strong polyester bags can be between 300D and 1000D.
There are some drawbacks to polyester. The main issue is that it isn't as breathable as nylon or other natural fibers.
This can be an issue if you have a bag with a shoulder strap or a backpack-style carrier. It's easy to get hot and sweaty in those parts of your body that contact the bag. This can be offset with a good design that offers breathable mesh panels – it's definitely worth checking for those.

3. Leather

Even today, with high-quality synthetic materials available, many (most?) motorbike riders prefer the durability and protection of leather over any alternatives. If it's good enough to protect a biker from road rash, it can probably keep a laptop secure.
Leather bags are durable. They're not going to rip, and they provide a natural cushion that thinner materials cannot match. Leather can be tanned or dyed, and it comes in attractive, sophisticated-looking styles.

The main drawback to leather products is their high cost. High-quality leather is more expensive, and you need bags with quality stitching and hardware to ensure the seams are as strong as the hide itself.

4. Canvas

Canvas is a time-tested material. Before ballistic nylon and other synthetic materials, canvas, a type of strong cotton-based fabric, was a popular choice for bags. Members of the military and outdoors enthusiasts used it for their packs.
Because it is a natural fabric, the canvas is easy to dye and print on. It can be very durable, and it's usually reasonably priced.
Canvas is thick and tough, but it can break down over time if not cared for (especially if it gets wet and isn't dried properly – it can get moldy which breaks down the fibers). It's on the heavy side too.

5. Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a type of plastic that doesn't absorb water and offers a high level of insulation. You can find some packs, totes, and shoulder bags made from this woven thermoplastic.
These products can be very inexpensive, and the material is recyclable.
The main drawback is that polypropylene deteriorates over time when exposed to direct sunlight. Not only do colors fade, but the plastic fibers weaken too.
This makes it a popular material for inexpensive bags that are not expected to last.

How to Carry Your Laptop in a Backpack?
productcate-800-450

Shut Your Laptop Down

You should not keep your laptop running at full capacity when you're not using it. Save your work, then power down your computer before you move locations. Turn the laptop completely off if you're finished using it. If you will use it when you reach your destination, you can put it in sleep or hibernate mode instead. Keeping the laptop powered-down will prevent it from overheating.

Unplug All Cords and Devices

Now that the laptop is powered down, unplug all cords and devices, including power cords, headphones, flash drives and anything connected via USB. Transporting a laptop with components still plugged in could cause damage to these items and the ports they use.

productcate-800-450
productcate-800-450

Close the Laptop

Always close your laptop completely before putting it away. For 2-in-1s or models that have reversible screens, make sure the screen is in its starting position facing the keyboard when closed. Do not close any objects like pencils, notebooks or earbuds between the keyboard and screen. Not only could you damage these items, but you could also damage the screen or keyboard.

Place It in a Protective Case

Next, secure your laptop in its protective case. Make sure you insert it correctly and close it securely. Many backpack-friendly laptop cases, such as the high-quality protective cases designed by High Ground, are designed to ruggedize any backpack with slim, re-enforced sleeves. Students maintain their freedom of choice for the backpack, and schools and parents rest easy knowing a rugged sleeve will protect the device.

productcate-800-450
productcate-800-450

Secure the Laptop in Your Backpack

Place your laptop case in your backpack, making sure other objects won't damage it. If you've got food or liquids in your backpack, make sure they aren't leaking. Even if the backpack-friendly Chromebook cases you use cover the entire computer, you don't want to risk damaging the case itself.

Handle Your Backpack with Care

Even though you've got a reliable laptop backpack insert that will keep it safe, you should still handle your backpack with care. Avoid throwing it or letting it drop onto the floor. Try not to stack heavy items like other backpacks on top of it, and make sure it won't get stepped on or kicked if you have it resting by your feet.

productcate-800-450
productcate-800-450

Remember to Zip

It's often easy to forget to close the top zipper of your laptop sleeve or backpack, feeling confident that the items are secured within. If the bag is set down on a slight angle, it's all too easy for a laptop to slide out of its protective compartment and onto the hard ground, resulting in preventable damage.

Choosing the Perfect Laptop Bag

1

Material Construction: Laptop backpacks are typically made from 600D polyester or 1680D ballistic nylon, both of which have a high amount of durability and tear resistance. The material should be thick enough to handle daily use (especially if you plan on putting the backpack through frequent flights) but thin enough that it doesn't make the pack overly heavy.

2

Fit and Size: There are many different backpack sizes, including small (for carrying less gear or smaller laptops), medium (17" laptop), large (18"+), extra-large. It's important to make sure that you get a proper fit, especially if you plan on putting the backpack through air travel. If it doesn't fit well then you may have problems boarding or it will be uncomfortable while walking about.

3

Padded or Unpadded Compartments: Laptop backpacks that are designed for travel typically have padded compartments to protect your laptop from impacts while carrying the bag around. Many bags also have a dedicated compartment where they can hold a tablet, notepad, and other stuff. so you can use the backpack for multiple needs.

4

Exterior Pockets: Laptop backpacks should have one or two expanding side pockets that are big enough to carry water bottles, umbrellas, energy bars, and other stuff.

5

Dedicated Compartment: It's important that your laptop is held in place securely when stored inside the bag. The best kind of laptop compartment is one where it slides vertically, rather than horizontally. Padded walls are also important to protect the computer's edges when it's being knocked around.

6

Water-Resistant Materials: Laptop bags that are water-resistant typically have a coating on the nylon exterior that prevents liquid from seeping through. The water-resistant materials should also be thick enough to protect against rain.

7

Quality Straps: Most laptop backpacks have extra padding on shoulder straps, which are good for distributing the weight of the backpack across your upper body. You should also look into how adjustable these are, as they can ensure that you walk around with maximum comfort. A sternum strap and hip belt (on larger backpacks) can be useful as well for walking for longer periods of time.

8

Other Handles: Some laptop backpacks have additional hand straps so you can carry the backpack around via your arms if you don't want to put it over your shoulders. This is usually only found on large backpacks.

9

Back Support System: Backpacks with good back support typically have a plastic frame in the middle of the bag, which spreads out the considerable weight evenly. This prevents any pressure on your shoulders and can be useful even when you are not carrying your laptop around.

Ways Laptops Can Be Damaged In Backpacks

Here are 10 ways you can quickly damage a laptop in your backpack:

Cracked Screens
Your laptop screen is one of the most fragile and exposed parts of your laptop. Closing objects like pencils, cords or even earbuds inside the laptop can cause the screen to crack.

Dropping
You should assume no safe distance is acceptable for your laptop to drop, even if it's in a backpack. Tossing your backpack onto a bed or letting it drop to the ground beside you is not recommended.

Trauma
Your backpack may be able to handle getting bumped or banged around, but your laptop can't. Trauma from banging into walls, seats or desks can damage it.

Shaking
Most laptops have SSDs, which means shaking your laptop may not cause damage. However, if your laptop has a mechanical hard disk drive, rough shaking can disrupt the components and potentially cause you to lose saved data.

Weather Damage
Not all backpacks are weather-resistant, which means a walk through the rain or snow could cause moisture to penetrate the interior and damage your laptop.

Food/Beverage Damage
You may want to think twice about sliding an uncovered laptop into a backpack that has your lunch in it. Even if your food or drink is covered and capped, an accidental spill could cause plenty of problems for your computer.

Overloading
Just because your backpack can fit everything from textbooks and notebooks to lunchboxes and school supplies doesn't mean you should overstuff it. Packing a laptop into an already-full backpack is a quick way to potentially crush it.

Pressure
You should also not let anything rest on top of your backpack when you're packing your laptop. Other backpacks and books — even ones that don't weight much — could potentially cause damage if you sat them on top of your computer.

Overheating
Leaving your laptop on while it's in your backpack can cause it to overheat. Be sure to put it to sleep or turn off completely.

Inserting And Removing
You should always insert and remove your computer from your backpack properly. Squeezing the screen too hard while removing can accidentally lead to cracks.

How to Carry a Laptop in a Backpack Safely

Don't Pack a Laptop in a Checked Bag
Just make sure to pick a backpack with a separate area for computers that has to cushion.
Although it may seem apparent, this has to be said. The checked luggage is flung around, piled, scanned, and inspected. Your delicate, pricey laptop isn't made to take that type of assault.

Pack Your Chargers Separately
For security checks, the actual laptop must be removed; the charger is not required. So avoid bringing your laptop along with your power charger. Additionally, the charger is substantial enough to protrude from most laptop pockets, placing pressure on your laptop. Pack the charger separately to keep it out of the way. If you have fewer objects close to your computer, it will be easier to escape to security quickly.

Keep It in the Laptop Compartment
The laptop compartment exists to secure your laptop; thus, use it! A laptop backpack, unlike other types of backpacks, will include a separate compartment with additional cushioning and padding. This additional protection is meant to defend against damage caused by sudden bumps and bangs.
Always examine the laptop compartment first when purchasing a backpack. Check for appropriate padding on the front, bottom, and sides. Remember to measure as well.

Keep Sharp Objects Away from Your Laptop
Pencils, chargers, cables, water bottles, and other items are among the things that are intended to be kept in a bag. Not everything should be placed in a single container without additional security. Particularly sharp things might cause the delicate body of your laptop to break. As a result, it's essential to organize and separate your stuff, especially if most of it is a laptop.

Keep Your Food and Drinks Away from Your Laptop
Although it was said that you should separate the goods within your back using an additional layer of protection, this reasoning does not apply if the objects in issue are food and drink. Even if they are adequately sealed, their contents may leak and damage your laptop. If you have your gadget in your bag, never put any food or drink.

Avoid Carelessly Tossing Your Backpack
It doesn't guarantee that the laptop inside your bag will be secure just because cloth separates it from the bed or the floor. If your gadget is inside, be careful and never drop your bag.

Avoid Shaking Your Bag
SSDs are not always used in laptops; some still use traditional hard drives. If your device uses the former, you should avoid violently shaking your bag since the motion might result in data loss and jarring of the drive's parts.

Avoid Packing Your Backpack Too Full
Some backpack manufacturers take pride in their capacity to carry particular loads. If you have a laptop, you should refrain from putting too much in your luggage. Overstuffed backpacks may put additional pressure on your equipment, endangering you. It would be advisable to purchase and use a specialist computer bag if you were also carrying textbooks and other stuff in addition to your laptop.

It provides easy access to the laptop when you need it and can be securely closed against theft when you don't.
Furthermore, a laptop backpack is perfect for those who want to keep their laptop safe from the elements, as it is water-resistant and shock-proof. With the secure compartments and extra pockets, you can be sure that your laptop and its accessories are protected from the elements.
Lastly, laptop backpacks are lightweight, making them easy to carry wherever you go. Whether you are commuting to work or embarking on an adventure, you can be sure that your laptop backpack has everything you need.

Q: Why do I need a laptop bag?

A: A good laptop bag is essential for anyone who is often on the move with their laptop. It not only protects your laptop from damage, but also provides space for other important items, such as cables, documents and even your phone.

Q: Are laptop backpacks worth it?

A: It's well worth it to invest in a backpack designed to protect your technology when you're on the go. Whether you're traveling on an airplane or trekking through campus, a comfortable, well-made backpack with a padded laptop pocket is a must-have.

Q: Why do people bring backpacks to work?

A: A backpack with an appropriate design and aesthetic that fits in with the workplace won't look unprofessional there. A backpack makes carrying your laptop and all your documentation to and from work simple and safe.

Q: Are computer backpacks washable?

A: Yes. When using warm water to clean the computer backpack, you can soak the stain in warm water for a while, then scrub it with your hands.

Q: What size computer backpack should I get?

A: When we talk about sizes like a "15 inch laptop backpack" or a "17 in laptop backpack", we're primarily referring to the size of the laptop compartment. The 15-inch variant is perfect for carrying a 15 or 15.6-inch laptop, usually providing a snug fit. On the other hand, a 17-inch backpack is more spacious and can accommodate a laptop up to 17.3 inches.
A common question that arises is-"Can a 16-inch laptop fit into a 15.6-inch laptop backpack?" While it might technically squeeze in, it's not advisable. Overstuffing can strain the backpack's seams and also put unnecessary pressure on your laptop, risking damage. When it comes to choosing the size, the golden rule is to select a backpack that fits your laptop perfectly.

Q: What is the best material for a computer backpack?

A: When choosing a backpack material, consider factors such as durability, water resistance, weight, and breathability. Materials such as nylon and polyester are often durable and water-resistant, but may be heavier than other options. Canvas and leather may be more breathable but may require waterproofing treatments.

Q: Which colour laptop bag is best?

A: If you're a business professional, you may want to choose a more neutral color like black, brown, or navy blue, as these colors are more formal and appropriate for the workplace. If you're a student, you may want to choose a more fun and colorful laptop bag that reflects your personality.

Q: How to care different materials of computer backpacks?

A: For nylon
When cleaning nylon fabric, stick with a very gentle dish soap, and only wipe the fabric with a soft, clean cloth. Nylon can never be dry cleaned, because dry cleaning solvents will actually melt the fabric. Bleach can also melt nylon, so make sure that there’s no bleach in any cleaning products. That said, untreated nylon repels water and stains better than polyester, so you shouldn’t need to do too much scrubbing in the first place.
For polyester
You should clean polyester in the same way that you clean nylon fabric: with a gentle dish soap and a soft, clean cloth. Even though polyester can be dry cleaned, we don’t recommend it. At Knack, we carefully treat polyester fabric with several coatings that improve water and stain repellent properties while still maintaining a soft feel.
For leather
You should clean any leather with a damp cloth and specialty leather cleaner. We like to use dubbin, which is a wax product that can soften, condition, and waterproof leather. That said, Knack Packs use napa leather, which is naturally stain and water resistant, so you shouldn’t need any products beyond a damp cloth for cleaning.

Q: What not to do when washing a backpack?

A: Don't use bleach. Bleach can destroy color and, like we said before, can melt nylon. Just stay away from it. And if you planned to use bleach for sanitizing your backpack, keep reading. We're going to cover a safer way below.
Don't use high heat. Heat can make nylon wrinkle, and can destroy helpful fabric coatings. Aim to only use cool water and cool or room-temperature air for drying.
Don't leave soap on the backpack. Soap is great for those extra-dirty areas, but again, it can break down fabric and fabric coatings. Whenever you wipe your backpack with soapy water, make sure that you're re-wipe with a soap-free, dampened cloth.

Q: What's the difference between a backpack and a bookbag?

A: The key difference between a bookbag and a backpack is the way in which we carry them. Bookbags are traditionally used by primary school age children and carried by two handles, much like a handbag. A backpack however is carried on the back. Although they are different, the two terms are still used synonymously.

Q: Can a backpack be a work bag?

A: Whether you're commuting to an office or school, working from coffee shops, or going on a weekend trip, a good backpack will carry your stuff and keep it organized. It's also easier on your neck and shoulders than an overstuffed purse, duffle, or briefcase.

Q: Are backpacks still trendy?

A: As one of the most important accessories for both men and women, the backpack has never really gone away in fashion. It is the perfect way to carry all your stuff, from your laptop to your favorite books and snacks.

Q: What do the British call backpacks?

A: These days, they're called rucksacks (from the German: “Rucken” and “Sac” - back and sack).

Q: Am I too old to wear a backpack?

A: Never. It's mainly the style of backpack you wear. Well, actually, any age can wear any type of backpack, but generally, there are some backpacks that are more directed towards different ages.

Q: Is backpack good for office?

A: Whether you're commuting to an office or school, working from coffee shops, or going on a weekend trip, a good backpack will carry your stuff and keep it organized. It's also easier on your neck and shoulders than an overstuffed purse, duffle, or briefcase.

Q: What is a good size backpack for work?

A: MEDIUM BACKPACKS (20 – 38L)
Suitable for school, camera, work, gym, short travel, cabin luggage … This capacity range is considered a medium-size backpack and is probably the most popular bag capacity out there.

Q: Do I need a laptop bag for work?

A: Computer is not only expensive, but it also contains vital data that you need access to at all times. That's why you need a work laptop carrying bag to protect your laptop and make it easy to bring wherever you go. A good work laptop carrying bag has an interior pocket to hold your computer securely.

Q: Can I just put my laptop in regular backpack?

A: Not a good ideal. You can protect your laptop by making sure you've stored it in a protective case, and even better, in a bag designed with a special laptop compartment. This will be a padded type of sleeve built into the bag that secures your device by stopping it from moving around too much.

Q: Is it better to use a laptop bag or backpack for travel?

A: While laptop bags can be used for travel, they are generally more compact and may not provide the extensive storage needed for longer trips. They are generally used in conjunction with another, larger bag that carries personal items. Laptop backpacks are well-suited for travel.

Q: Can you fit a 17-inch laptop in a 15-inch bag?

A: It's unlikely that a 17-inch laptop will fit in a 15-inch backpack. It's best to choose a backpack that is the appropriate size for your laptop to ensure a proper fit and protection during travel.

Q: What are the differences between a 15-inch and a 17-inch laptop backpack?

A: The main difference is size, with a 17-inch backpack being larger and able to accommodate larger laptops. However, there may also be differences in padding, compartments, and other features designed specifically for each size.

Q: What is the proper way to measure my laptop's size?

A: Measure your laptop diagonally from one corner of the screen to the opposite corner. This will give you the size of your laptop, such as 13 inches, 15 inches, or 17 inches.

Q: Can a 15.6-inch laptop fit in a 15-inch backpack?

A: It's possible that a 15.6-inch laptop could fit in a 15-inch backpack, but it's best to check the dimensions of both to ensure a proper fit. Keep in mind that a backpack specifically designed for a 15.6-inch laptop may provide better protection and organization than a backpack meant for a smaller size.
